Visits further afield

Days on the beach

Holidays in Lee are not only about enjoying life in and around the village - Brookdale makes an ideal base for visiting the many attractions elsewhere in North Devon. The following are a sample of what is on offer and represent some of the places that we and our family have visited and enjoyed.

Only a few minutes drive from Lee are the award winning Blue Flag beaches of Woolacombe, Putsborough and Croyde. These are among the best in the world and also offer some of the finest surfing in Britain. The miles of golden sands are perfect for everything from sand castles to beach cricket.

... things to do ...

There are great days out to be had at all sorts of holiday attractions for all sorts of tastes. Families enjoy Watermouth Castle which offers an unusual mix of history, science, historic slot machines and fun rides. From July to early September there is the very popular Sheepdog and Falcolnry demonstrations each Wednesday evening at Borough Farm, Morthoe.

A little further away there are animals both young and old (some seem very old) to be seen at The Big Sheep and The Combe Martin Wildelife and Dinosaur Park.

... places to see.

If you prefer something more sedate, then there are gardens to visit at RHS Rosemoor, Tapely Park, Docton Mill and Marwood Hill and National Trust historic houses and gardens such as Killerton, Buckland Abbey, Castle Drogo, Knightshayes, and Arlington Court.

Don't miss a visit to the historic town of Barnstaple for general shopping and where there are produce, antique and craft sales on various days of the week in the Pannier Market. Torrington with its civil war re-enactments and demonstrations of glass making at the Dartington Glass Works.
